Job Description - Investment Banking Analyst

An Investment Bank is a financial service company that acts as a middle man between people who want to invest money, and entrepreneurs who want to use this money to carry out their business plans.

In its most simple form, here are bullet points of what Investment Banks actually do:

1. Help companies raise money for their future plans.

2. Help companies buy other companies.

3. Help companies understand what they are worth.

Our job is simply to help companies.

I am an analyst. We spend all of our time coming up with valuations for companies, and summarising heaps of data into a presentable power point that we can take to investors and our clients. Most of our time is spent at a desk and in offices and drinking an absurd amount of coffee. In simple terms, we do all of the dirty, nitty-gritty work to make the lives of our clients more fruitful when they are making a financial decision.

Skills that are required for this role consist of high levels of energy, a lot of grit, and excellent Excel and Powerpoint skills. It is a demanding job, and provides enormous amounts of exposure to outstanding entrepreneurs who have created masses of value for the world.

  2. Wow, I feel like I just got a crash course in Investment Banking 101. It seemed like a really scary industry, but your breakdown shows that it is not. It's B2B right? I admire your straightforwardness and directness; your writing is easy to read and understand. Would love to know more about how, what kinds of methods, your position and industry helps your clients in the three bullet points you listed.

  3. I too have worked at an investment real estate brokerage, and you did a very good job explaining the process. However, I think by expanding on the three sections, and some more specific terminology would help someone unfamiliar with the topic have a better understanding of what you like to do with it. Overall, very impressed with your paper and with a little work it could be really good. Cheers
